Join us on Ash Wednesday, March 1 at 7PM, as we mark the beginning of Lent with a simple service of worship. The imposition of ashes is an ancient practice in the Christian Church and is central in this brief service. Scripture, song, silence, and confession serve to invite us into this season of introspection on our journey of faith.
Lent is the forty days leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends with the dawn of Easter Sunday. The traditional purpose of Lent is as a season of reflection, confession, and repentance. During Lent, we will continue to follow the narrative lectionary schedule of texts from the Gospel of Luke as our primary texts for a Lenten preaching series called, “Journey to Jerusalem: A Life on the Way.” This series will explore what our choice to follow Jesus demands of us.
On Ash Wednesday, a catered dinner begins at 6PM and all are welcome, no reservation needed. In between dinner and the worship service we will pack the Backpack snacks for the children at Ginter Park Elementary School.
