Palm Sunday is the day we remember the “triumphal entry” of Jesus into Jerusalem, exactly one week before we celebrate his resurrection. On this day, we ask all who are able to gather on the sanctuary steps as we begin worship outdoors before processing into the sanctuary. As we do, we will wave palm branches, reminiscent of the crowd greeting Jesus.

This evening will focus on the events of the last days of Jesus’ life. We will observe communion in memory of Jesus’ Last Supper with the disciples. In addition, scripture, song, and extinguishing the Tenebrae candles are the core of this time of worship.
Good Friday – Stations of the Cross

On Good Friday we remember the events of the last day of Jesus’ life, and his crucifixion, by joining with other Northside churches as we walk the Stations of the Cross along Brookland Parkway. The story is told through the reading of scripture and by song. We will gather at Saint Philip’s Church on 2900 Hanes Avenue at 3:00PM to begin this holy walk.
Easter Contemplative Worship Service

This contemplative time of worship bridges the events of Good Friday to Easter Sunday with the reading of scripture, singing, silence, and prayer. Worship concludes with a recessional outdoors to adorn the cross.

We will gather on the church lawn to decorate the outdoor cross with fresh flowers. This serves as a visual representation of the abundant new life that hte resurrection of Jesus brings for each of us and for the world. We invite you to bring flowers, of all kinds and colors, to add to the cross.

The service is marked by joy and emphasizes the Easter theme of new life. Worship will include the musical accompaniment of not only our staff and the Chancel and Bell Choirs, but also of the Midlothian High School Brass Ensemble. As is our tradition, we will conclude worship by singing Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.”
