Our very own Sandra Hack Polaski penned the words to the hymn, “Travelling Song” which was sung as part of our final worship service at 1200 Wilmington Avenue. Enjoy these meaningful words!
“Travelling Song”
When Abraham and Sarah left kindred, home, and land
They trusted in God’s promise and followed God’s command.
Not knowing where it led them, the road ahead they trod;
They sought a better country, a place prepared by God.
When Moses led the people, they cried to God in fear:
“How shall we feed our children? There is no water here!”
So God provided manna, the rock with water flowed;
The people journeyed onward to claim their promised home.
When Mary heard the angel, she magnified the Lord;
She said, “Let it be with me according to your word.”
And as she brought forth Jesus, Emmanuel on earth,
Creation groans in labor to bring the new to birth.
God, grant us now your vision and lead us safely through;
A century behind us, our future ever new.
God’s people through the ages on pilgrimage have gone.
We follow in their footsteps; our God will lead us on.
